One Day at a Time, With God by My Side

Updated: May 24, 2025

By Krisstee Pierce

Every morning I wake up sober is a miracle.

Not just because I’m clean, but because I remember a time I didn’t think I’d make it out alive. A time when addiction had me so far gone I couldn’t see the light, much less believe I was worthy of it.

But God had other plans for me. And if you’re reading this, I believe He has a plan for you, too.

You’re Not Too Far Gone

I don’t care how many times you’ve messed up. I don’t care if you slipped yesterday or if you’re starting over today. You are not too far gone. You’re not damaged. You’re not worthless. You are a child of God and He’s not finished with you.

Sobriety isn’t a straight path. It’s not a perfect journey. It’s messy. It’s painful. It’s full of moments where you want to give up. But you don’t. You take it one day at a time, sometimes one breath at a time. And you trust that God is walking with you every step of the way.

Speak Life Over Yourself

Your words have power. The way you talk to yourself matters more than you think. So today, try this:

    •    I am strong, even on the days I feel weak.

    •    God’s grace is greater than my past.

    •    I choose recovery. I choose peace. I choose life.

    •    I may not be where I want to be yet, but thank God I’m not where I used to be.

Say these out loud. Put them on sticky notes. Pray them. Believe them.

Keep Going

You’re not walking this path alone. There are people rooting for you, praying for you, and most importantly—God is with you. He never left you in your darkest hour, and He’s not leaving now.

So take a deep breath. Drink some water. Go outside and let the sun hit your face. And remember:

Today is a gift. You are a miracle. And there is so much more ahead of you.

If no one else says it today I love you. I believe in you. And I’m so proud of how far you’ve come.
